Completely re-wrote the Help to be compatible with Windows Vista.
At startup The GS Wavetable Synth now has it's volume set to the max on both channels at startup. This cures the problem with Windows Media Player leaving it set at 0.

The position of the Hollywood lines can be set for individual meters. You can drag the meter characters up or down if they are Alternate Font characters, and the line endpoints near the meter characters can be dragged both horizontally and vertically within certain limits. Holding down the Ctrl (MAC cmd) key applies the change to all meters.
Meters on scaled staves are now centered with all meters vertically. NOTE: On previous files you'll have to open the Meter dialog for the meter and then choose OK, so that the meter can center itself.
Increased the size of chord symbols in Chord window when using small fonts.
Fixed a beam bug while entering beamed notes with the mouse that had the stem directions incorrect when one of the notes was on the middle line and the others were below it. (Only with mouse input and switching to Transposed Scores)
Fixed bug that transposed certain chord symbols like Gb incorrectly when choosing octave up or down.
Colors for meters and key signatures at left edge are turned off when Options>Show Symbols in Colors is not checked.

OK HERE IS A BIG CHANGE FOR YOU FILM COMPOSERS. The meter dialog has two new buttons and a new switch.
1. The Alternate Font button allows you to set the Alternate Meter font for the current score. It is no longer controlled by the preferences. The Preferences Meter Font is only used when new scores are created.
2. The Track Settings button allows you to Show or Hide the meter on tracks in one simple dialog.
3. The Hollywood lines switch tells Overture to automatically draw thick lines between meters. It only draws over staves that have their meters hidden in the Setup track dialog or through the Track Settings dialog.

Fixed the problems with Multi-Measure rests introduced with previous patch.
The Show Above in Multi-Measure rests when showing range now works properly.
Fixed problem that displayed the incorrect number when stacking Multi-rests back to back.
Fixed crash when ctrl clicking multiple objects.
The whole measure/system layout process has been much improved. The original bars per system is retained as much as possible when inserting, deleting measures, and other operations that affect the layout. When it has to choose it choose from the last setting for the current page set in the Layout Page dialog.
New scores now use the Preferences>Engraver>Measures per System setting correctly.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 5-2/22/2008

There is an option in the Setup Track dialog box to force the track to use the enharmonic key signature for the key of F# and C# to Gb and Db, when choosing Options>Show>Tracks Transposed. There is a slight problem that will be cured soon. If you have this switch set and choose Options>Show>Tracks Transposed, and then open the Measures>Set Key Signature dialog box and click OK, key signatures in the middle of the piece get funny when you switch back to Concert Pitch and your notes will start adding double sharps and flats. So don't go back or don't open the Key Signature box. This will be fixed soon.
Multi-Measure rests now retain the original bars per line when being created. This will be improved even more down the road.
Alto Sax and others now has the correct key signature for the concert key of E, when Options>Show Transpose is enabled.
Fixed bug introduced in last patch that prevented System Text from being dragged.

Improved position of page while following playback and editing.. Playback no longer tries to keep the current track on the screen. This way if you scroll down to see another track on large scores, the vertical position is retained throughout the playback.
Fixed transcribe bug that cause the third note of a tied group not to be attached to the tie.
Removed the following restriction: Older versions of the Overture will not be able to open files saved with this version. This may cause a few problems with device names on scores created with versions 4.0.0 - 4.1.0. Nothing major.
Fixed a playback bug found in MAC version that could appear in the PC version although at this time is was dormant.

Fixed bug that prevented notes and graph position from being dragged when MIDI Data Mode was Notes Only.
Fixed bug that prevented play position vertical line from being displayed on first beat when window scrolled during playback.
Fixed problem when converting a group of notes (played out trill) to a trill (with hidden notes) and the group required a tie. The tie was being played even though it is not necessary. the tie's playback should have been disabled because the main note and hidden notes are played and the tie is unnecessary.
Fixed bug that prevented System text and Codas, Segnos, etc. from showing color.
The step input chords now default to mute. Playback can be enabled using the Edit >Enable Playback menu option.
Added playback of mordents and turns including a new dialog.
Added Notes>Beam>Hide Tuplet menu item to show/hide the tuplet number on beams.
Fixed incorrect accidentals being forced to show inside the measure. To show an accidental that is automatically hidden if the previous note had the same accidental, simply select the note and type 's', 'f', 'n' for the appropriate accidental to toggle it showing.
Changed bracket symbol in Groups palette to behave correctly. Both top and bottom points now stretch the bracket and the bottom point can be connected to the bottom staff of a Grand Staff. Bracket pen width is the same as the staff line width.
Added Default Volume Controller field in Preferences>Playback dialog.
Fixed several crashes when opening certain scores.
Updated the Overture manual and also added the new Mordent/Turn dialog and Trill dialog.

Fixed stem flipping and rest position problem when entering polyphonic rhythms.
When creating drum maps in Setup Track, the bass drums automatically have their stems set downward.
Ctrl clicking a measure to select the entire measure has been removed because of a conflict with discontigous clicking.
Crosshair cursor now indicates the staff that non-notes symbols are about to be placed on.
Pedal Down and Up now send MIDI sustain by default.
Changing thru on transport now matches what manual says and now changing patch does not change the track's patch unless Control key is down when choosing patch.
You can now Control and Shift click individual controllers in the Graphic Window as stated in the manual.
Step Inputting chords now moves cursor correctly on all systems.
Codas, Segnos, etc. can now have their color set.
Sustain pedal is automatically turned off when playback stops.

Audio engine can now write a 16 bit file or 24 bit file. The 24 bit file is written in "wave extensible format". This is the expected format for Windows Media Player. Note: Some wave editors might refuse this format.
Fixed problem with screen redraw when step inputting chords.
Fixed a problem with playback after reading old Overture 2 files, especially chords.
Fixed several lyric importing problems including importing Karaoke files.

Fixed importing bug where triplet rests were incorrect.

Articulations that switch voices override the first note of any other elements that set a voice changes such as slurs. Trills and tremolos that have an articulation that switches voices also work correctly.

Fixed hairpin playback to start on the closes note time. Also Hairpin dialog has fields for attaching dynamics at control points.
This means you no longer have to insert a dynamic in score before and after hairpin. The hairpin will display them.
Fixed problem with Bass Guitar Track staff line information changing to 6 lines in Setup Track dialog.
The New Score dialog now allows for more than 32 characters in Title fields.
Fixed a crash when entering text/lyrics and clicking outside with nothing was entered.
When choosing an instrument for a voice other than the first voice in track Properties or Insert Track dialogs that has an articulation associated with it, you are given the option to change the default articulation for the track to remap to this voice.
Key switches for articulations are automatically turned off. This means you no longer have to enter a key switch at the end of a phrase of notes that have articulations that send key switches. The first key switch for the instrument is sent just before the first note that does not have a key switch. Note: Key switches in expressions are not automatically turned off. Expressions are modal and therefore any mode that an expressions sets, has to be reset by another expression. Articulations have offset times from start on note.
Articulations are now stored individually with each track instead of the entire score. When you choose an instrument for voice 1 in a track the default articulations for that instrument are loaded for the track. The Score>Articulations dialog is now track specific. Any changes made in this dialog affect only the articulations for the current track show at the top of the dialog.
When inserting any of the following expressions (Marcato, Stacatto, arco, and pizz.) their default settings are taken from the xml definition files instead of the expressions palette. You can always double click on the inserted expression and change it.
Playback of articulations has been fixed and has greatly been improved.
Expressions with key switches are now chased before and after playback.
Patch and controller names for unknown VST devices now show correctly as General MIDI names
Online Help has been updated to the new Overture 4.
Set Symbol properties, colors, etc. now work with right click options. Previously they had to be selected.
Preferences now has a switch that allows you to only show the named controllers and key switches in popup menus.
Dynamics default to velocity for percussion tracks.
Inserted trills default to playback of 16th notes, unless head is smaller than a quarter note, then it is duration / 4.
Chords now playback the correct notes.
When loading GPO scores, the initial volume (mod wheel) is sent.

Changes and Improvements in 4.0.1

Fixed and improved Insert Track and Track Properties dialog. Channels numbers are intelligently assigned as you choose instruments for each voice. Each time you choose Insert Track, the next available channel number for its device is set in the Track/Voice area. The bank changes now work and Overture now supports bank changes in VST instrument definition files.
Deleting notes with eraser or backspace key now replaces them with rests. Deleting rests changes the timing of measure.
Playback voice on notes is now shown in the voice color in Graphic window and when converted to raw.
Copy and pasting triplets has been fixed.
Added 1/2 second to end of record to allows for decay of sustained notes.
Fixed some printing alignment problems.
Braces do not expand horizontally when stretched vertically.
Track Properties dialog has an option for changing track name, clef, etc. from definition files and has been fixed.

Fixed crash when backspacing in a phrase that had an underscore.
Page Dimensions dialog now has an option to recalculate the score when slider changes. Fixed bug when slider went below 30%.
Encore reader now reads lyrics and chord symbols.

When positioning non-note attached symbols, if there is not a note close by, their timing defaults to the nearest logical beat, determined by position.
Braces and Brackets inserted into score can now be flipped. Their height can be adjusted by dragging top or bottom third part.
Notes with alternate Playback voices are show in Graphic Window with the playback voice the same as in main score window.
Glissandos imported from pervious versions of Overture now have a line width.

Save As dialog now uses the default folder when saving new untitled scores.
Preferences dialog has setting for ctrl-clicking to select entire measure.
Changed Undo buffer to to 16 to conserve memory. This is by request of users.
Double click on repeats to make them a Winged Repeat.

You can now select the entire measure by ctrl clicking on white space and ctrl-shift to extend it. These values are used in several
dialogs like Multi-Measure rests and Delete Measure. We may make holding down the control key a preferences in the future.
The space bar always plays from current position and the " Space Bar is Cursor" has been removed from preferences dialog..

The Set Folder Dialog for VST Folder now works correctly if just the folder name is selected. You do not need to be inside the
folder. Also the OK button is disabled if the selected folder is "C:\" or " C\:Program Files". This is also true for the default folder in Preferences dialog. NOTE: Individual files should not be stored here.

Added Tap Tempo feature. While editing tempos in MIDI Data mode, start record and use the Enter key or play a MIDI note to move to next beat. Press the space bar or stop button to stop the tap tempo recording.
