The Status of Overture 4 for OS X

Although several features will not be in the initial release they will be implemented as quickly as possible. The main feature not in the initial release will be the VST hosting engine. There will also be limited support for the GPO/GPO Studio as in Overture 3. This is because once the VST hosting is implemented, there will be no need for GPO studio. You'll load GPO as a VST instrument and will not need GPO Studio. Please be patient with this.

Known issues with this release:

• Does not read Overture 1 and 2 files.
• Does not have the VST Hosting.
• While moving mouse through Graphics palette the submenus do not work. They work when palette is floating.
• Editing score while zoomed in to large percentages  may cause improper scrolling of window.
• When in the background the application may behave funny when resumed or may even crash.
• Templates and Sample files need a little work.
• The dock is automatically hidden until we work out some issues with screen display.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 25-4/2/2010

Note: Every one should get this patch. The previous few patches had a few serious flaws.

• Fixed broken tie problems with real time recording. (Bug was introduced in patch 22).
• Fixed too many additional measures added when pasting from last measure in score.
• Improved spacing consistency around different bar line types.
• Added a little more space for cautionary accidentals.
• Improved double clicking on clefs, meters, and key signature space on first measure of a system.
• Limited dragging around items to only include lines if their end points are in the dragged area.
• Fixed problem where eraser did not work on all symbols. (Bug was introduced in patch 23).
• Editing Allotments or Engraver from Score menu, now justifies measures and systems and this can be undone.
• You can now set the accidental font size in Chord Dialog.
• Fixed a few bugs when setting key signatures over a ranges that had existing key signatures.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 24-3/30/2010

• Fixed a few broken tie problems.
• Improved entering grace notes one more time.
• Fixed crash on moving notes to a different track. (Crash was introduced a few patches ago)
• Improved general spacing routines to obey Engraver setting closer.
• Improved placement of rests when converting them from existing notes or rests.
• Fixed spacing on cautionary accidentals.
• Fixed Key Signature dialog bug that showed E Major/Db minor to be C# minor
• Improved grace note spacing
• Improved spacing of clusters (one more time).
• Fixed bug that didn't map coda and segno symbols to alternate fonts like the Jazz font.
• Fixed crash when Increasing Systems on page.
• Fixed multiple spacing problems on chords with accidentals, clusters next to barlines, etc.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 23-3/15/2010

• Fixed problem with music symbols being remapped to default font when opening old files.
• Fixed problem when changing a note's voice that changed the measure's rhythm incorrectly.
• Fixed problem with dragging tracks in Tracks Window when scrolled.
• Fixed cluster alignment with stems up and seconds in the chord. (From last patch)
• Rhythmic notes can be flipped without losing attached ties.
• Percussive tracks can now be re-transcribed without losing note scale positions.
• Fixed broken ties (again) on step inputted slash notes.
• Fixed problem with creating slurs across measures into last measure in score.
• Fixed curvature problem with slurs that crossed systems that were indented on either side.
• Fixed problem with Tempo Dialog that defaulted to changed all tempos to end of score instead on next tempo
• Now, when deleting ties on slash notes heads deletes all ties not just the one showing.
• Fixed tuplet misalignment problem when entering triplets with mouse.
• Fixed Recent Files Menu list not working.
• Default folder in Preferences is now saved.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 22-3/4/2010

• Fixed problem with ties giving extra note space when notes are close together. Now they don't give any space regardless. This was a problem with scores that had tight Allotments.
• Fixed problem with cursor jumping to bottom of screen when "Advance Cursor" was turn off in Preferences.
• Fixed problem with cursor not working properly when it was to the left of the staff. (From previous patch)
• Fixed a few problems with ties not staying attached to slash notes.
• Improved Chord and note alignment problems from last two patches.
• Fixed a few Graphic Tool problems when dragging right to left.
• Fixed the Wedge in Graphics Palette not displaying bug.
• Improved grace note spacing.
• Fixed spacing on notes with arpeggios.
• Fixed a possible crash when opening a file that contained an alternate meter font that was not in the system.
• Changed default Engraver Preference for "Barline to char" to 1.5 spaces. Everybody should have at lease 1.5 spaces if you're using Guitar Frames.

Changes and Improvements in 4.1.0 since initial release - Patch 21-2/25/2010

• Fixed group parenthesis width around notes with dots.
• Fixed broken ties and head displacement problems on slash note heads.
• Chord, Lyric, etc. position handles are now easier tt see and drag.
• Fixed a spacing problem with whole notes in top voice and a note a second below in another voice.
• Added a quick helpful feature. Shift click the TextOnly switch in Chords Window to show or hide all Guitar Frames in score. This will be changed later to a menu option.
• Corrected beaming pattern for 6/4 meters to be groups of 6 eighth notes.
• Fixed Metronome lead clocks in recording not working for odd meters.
• Transpose command now transposes correctly for Guitar Frames and notes.

• Fixed bug that limited Page text to only be dragged vertically.
• Corrected vertical position of dynamics on each side of double hairpins.
• When using the last couple of dynamics on a hairpin the curve is approximated to a sforzato to a crescendo.

• Fixed crash when exiting program under Snow Leopard.

• Fixed writing preferences crash when exiting program.
• Fixed Barre Dialog on MAC.
• Overture now uses the Cmd key while dragging to change the Guitar Barre and Bend numbers directly on the score.
• Changed All Tracks/Entire Score option in Dynamic Dialog box to work as expected.
• Option and Command dragging to apply to multiple staves now works when dragging staves.

• Fixed jumping around movement when entering notes on large scores that contained systems larger than the screen.
• Fixed crash using cross staff barline tools.

• When entering dynamics and hairpins the default location is used if they are entered below the top of the staff.
  If they are entered above the staff the current dragged position is used.
  If they are entered below the top of the staff and the default location is used, the dynamic/hairpin is moved below any notes or beams that would collide.
• Fixed problem with Expressions not being played correctly.

• Fixed crash problem when printing some scores with hidden tracks.
• Fixed problem where articulations that altered velocity were not working.
• Removed Accidental Font button from Chord Library Dialog.

• Fixed a crash caused by changes that deleted pages.

• Fixed bug that had incorrect placement of natural accidentals on some chord clusters.

• Fixed bug that destroyed timing when hiding tuplet numbers on beams.
• Fixed crash when importing some  MIDI files.
• Fixed default insert characters for of Inverted SForzando and SForzando Dot in articulation palette.
• Fixed bug that prevented radio buttons from being set in Humanize dialog.
• Fixed crash when dragging slurs that crosses measures and were into the previous staves general area.

• Fixed a small problem in choosing pitches from Drum Library.
• Fixed a crash when reading an old score with symbols created from Graphic Palette.
• Fixed a playback crash of some scores that contained the repeat measure symbol.
• Fixed a problem in Setup track Dialog when going between percussion tracks and normal tracks.

• There is finally On-Line Help.
• Fixed problem that prevented Glissando Dialog box from opening when double-clicking on a Glissando.

• The position of the Hollywood lines can be set for individual meters. You can drag the meter characters up or down if they are Alternate Font characters, and the line endpoints near the meter characters can be dragged both horizontally and vertically within certain limits. Holding down the Ctrl (MAC cmd) key applies the change to all meters.
• Meters on scaled staves are now centered with all meters vertically. NOTE: On previous files you'll have to open the Meter dialog for the meter and then choose OK, so that the meter can center itself.
• Increased the size of chord symbols in Chord window when using small fonts.
• Fixed a beam bug while entering beamed notes with the mouse that had the stem directions incorrect when one of the notes was on the middle line and the others were below it. (Only with mouse input and switching to Transposed Scores)
• Fixed bug that transposed certain chord symbols like Gb incorrectly when choosing octave up or down.
• Colors for meters and key signatures at left edge are turned off when Options>Show Symbols in Colors is not checked.

• Fixed problems with previous patch that caused crashes when deleting pages.
• Tweaked the new Hollywood lines feature to print better with PDF creators.
• Fixed bug that prevented first note being played of glissandos (diatonic)  that end note was on same scale position.
• Allowed more meter space when using alternate meter fonts.
• Added more settings for Hollywood lines.

• Fixed a problem that caused ties to end short of a note on certain clusters.
• Fixed a problem that a dot on dotted notes to be drawn too low on certain clusters.
• Fixed  problem when changing a Multi-Measure rest amount that caused layout problems on last page.
• Extracted parts will have the Show Time Signature and no Hollywood lines set on all tracks by default.
• Fixed problem that cause the end of  graphic items like vertical lines to be moved when measure width changed.
• Fixed bug that cause meters not to be drawn when a previous meter had the same top and bottom values.
• OK HERE IS A BIG CHANGE FOR YOU FILM COMPOSERS. The meter dialog has two new buttons and a new switch.
  1. The Alternate Font button allows you to set the Alternate Meter font for the current score. It is no longer controlled by the preferences. The Preferences Meter Font is only used when new scores are created.
  2. The Track Settings button allows you to Show or Hide the meter on tracks in one simple dialog.
  3.  The Hollywood lines switch tells Overture to automatically draw thick lines between meters. It only draws over staves that have their meters hidden in the Setup track dialog or through the Track Settings dialog.

• Fixed the problems with Multi-Measure rests introduced with previous patch.
• The Show Above in Multi-Measure rests when showing range now works properly.
• Fixed problem that displayed the incorrect number when stacking Multi-rests back to back.
• Fixed crash when ctrl clicking multiple objects.
• The whole measure/system layout process has been much improved. The original bars per system is retained as much as possible when inserting, deleting measures, and other operations that affect the layout. When it has to choose it choose from the last setting for the current page set in the Layout Page dialog.
• New scores now use the Preferences>Engraver>Measures per System setting correctly.

• There is an option in the Setup Track dialog box to force the track to use the enharmonic key signature for the key of F# and C# to Gb and Db, when choosing Options>Show>Tracks Transposed. There is a slight problem that will be cured soon. If you have this switch set and choose Options>Show>Tracks Transposed, and then open the Measures>Set Key Signature dialog box and click OK,  key signatures in the middle of the piece get funny when you switch back to Concert Pitch and your notes will start adding double sharps and flats. So don't go back or don't open the Key Signature box. This will be fixed soon.
• Multi-Measure rests now retain the original bars per line when being created. This will be improved even more down the road.
• Added a few more items to Preferences-General section including enabling Auto Save. (Score Writer only).
• Fixed a few dragging hairpin problems especially Decrescendos.
• Alto Sax and others now has the correct key signature for the concert key of E, when Options>Show>Tracks Transposed is enabled.

• Fix incorrect button settings in Harp Pedal dialog box and corrected the rectangle used to selecting them.
• Alternate Meter Font now works correctly. (Overture only)
• Tracks names no longer disappear when clicking on them without dragging.
• Page Dimensions - Set Orientation changes Page Setup setting and is no longer lost in Undo.
• Notes>Beam>Break in Middle menu command now works.
• The Font Menu Style submenu no longer has redundant Align commands.
• Fixed bug that caused Font Menu items to be disabled after using the Font Men when entering text.
• Fixed Text Box redraw problems.
• Fixed mouse cursor ghost redraw problems after switching note head/rest values using cursor keys.
• Cmd and option modifier keys now work when dragging staves vertically.

• Fix crash when opening lyrics window with some files.
• Fixed Quantize Dialog bug that cause radio button to not work properly.
• Fixed transcribe bug that cause the third note of a tied group not to be attached to the tie.
• Removed the following restriction: Older versions of the Overture will not be able to open files saved with this version. This may cause a few problems with device names on scores created with versions 4.0.0 - 4.1.0. Nothing major.
• Improved position of page while following playback and editing.. Playback no longer tries to keep the current track on the screen. This way if you scroll down to see another track on large scores, the vertical position is retained throughout the playback.
• NOTE: We have removed the saving of Preference Font sizes until the problem has been fixed.
• Option key now works when changing devices in tracks window.
• The Full Orchestra template has been cleaned up.
• Fixed the weird playback that caused a turn to be played at end of a measure.

• Fix problem when opening scores that contained devices that were no long available.
• Fixed more errors in Overture 4 manual.
• Fixed a bug that displayed the Thru patch name incorrectly in the Transport.
• Fixed a bug that did not display Device names longer than 31 characters.
• Fixed a Thru bug that caused the output to ignore the Thru Tracks, channel number.
• NOTE: Older versions of the Overture will not be able to open files saved with this version.
  The free update cures the problem. I may fix this so that all recent versions can open it.
• ALSO: If the program crashes when closing simply delete the Preference file found at
  com.geniesoft.plist file in your <Users><Your Login>Library>Preferences folder

• You can now directly create multi-measure rests beyond 999 measures.
• The font sizes in preferences are now stored in preference file.
• Fixed bug that caused double bar lines to disappear when inserting key signatures.
• You can now select a device to record from in MIDI Options dialog.
• Fixed errors in Overture 4 manual.

• Fixed bug that prevented notes and graph position from being dragged when MIDI Data Mode was Notes Only.
